When I first came across the photo that inspired this drawing, I instantly fell in love with it. It reminded me of the Shetland pony I used to take care of when I was younger. It reminded me of the early mornings we spend together, the late nights and the afternoons in the freezing cold. 

She wasn't just perfect companion, she was also the perfect teacher. She taught me how much horses have to offer, and that it goes far beyond just riding. 

She also reminds me of when I first started drawing. I was on a holiday in the Netherlands with my family when I found a small art store selling pastel pencils. It felt like heaven. I bought as many pencils as my (small) budget allowed, and spent the rest of the holiday creating a portrait of my horse. 

So, in short, this is a portrait that is filled with a ton of memories. That's where the title comes from, she really was my childhood best friend ❤️.
